Biography


The Circle Of Sound Band is a Detroit-based band featuring the 2017 Detroit Black Music Awards  R&B vocalist of the Year, Tabitha Rasul,  along with two other vocalists, the multi-talented Simply Smooth, and Crooner “Mo the MVP” Woods. The Rhythm Section with the outlandish guitarist Tracey "Cat in the Hat" Rich, funky Bassist Marvin "money" Brown, drummer and crowd-pleaser Shawn "Sgt Major" Mims and keyboardist  Kevin "Gangsta Boogie" Knott. The Circle of Sound Band has been playing for 8 years all over metro Detroit.

Tabitha Rasul

Award winning artist Tabitha Rasul is one of the 3 dynamic lead vocalists of The Circle of Sound. With 10+ years of professional performing experience under her belt, she has been dubbed "The Voice" by her fans and the local musician  circuit.  Her resume includes sharing the same stage with several stars like Kelly Price, Bobby Brown and even funk legend George Clinton and P Funkadelics. She briefly sang with the Motown legends, Gospel Choir who's membership include greats like the Original Vandellas, EJ Johnson of The Enchantments and quite a few other Motown legends.  Tabitha's vocal style described in one word is versatile, she can soothe you to your soul with any genre.  From Jill Scott to The Isley Brothers to Bruno Mars, this young lady's vocals, performance and presence will captivate you and keep you coming back for more.

Monteris Woods

Known as “Mo the MVP” was born and raised in Detroit MI to Janice Woods and the late Ralph L. Woods. Monteris attended Zion Hill Baptist Church Pastor  Rev. Dr. Dan Flowers and fell in love with music at the young age of 5. Coached by Wayne Todd and Ms. Piccola Griffin, he developed a strong passion for singing and began to lead songs from gospel artists such as Sam Cooke and The Soul Stirrers, The Jackson Southerners, The Mighty Clouds of Joy and The Gospel Keynotes just to name a few. He has written original material and have covered other artists of different genres. Artists such as Stevie Wonder, Marvin Gaye, Smokey Robinson, The Temptations, Donny Hathaway, Usher, Tyrese, Tank, Eric Benet, Maxwell, Joe, Kem, D'angelo, Musiq, Dave Hollister, Anthony Hamilton, R. Kelly, Glen Lewis, Ginuwine, Noel Gourdin, Trey Songz, Chris Brown and H-Town. Affiliated with many of Detroit's own artists, songwriters, producers, as well as many other record companies, including Crossbow Records Inc. Wenzell Kelly/United Sounds Studio (The Dramatics), Charles Davis (The Contours), Al Nuke (All World Ent.), and Keir Coleman Ward.

Simply Smooth

The multi-talented Simply Smooth, and vocalist, Vernie Ingram has performed with other artists such as  Lori Lorraine and Evolution, Free As The Wind Band, Dennis Cummings and Friends, The Flex Band and Level Rising.

Kevin "Gangsta Boogie" Knott


Keyboardist for The Circle of Sound Band has played for several recording acts and performing bands in Detroit including Kiara who's hit are "This Time", "Quiet Guy Best of Me" and "Every Little Time", Joe Crawford and Strate Local hits "Breakdance Momma" and "Candy Stick", "Venum Heart To Heart", Camaro Brothers Sounds Familiar Co. produced Charlton Washington of the Spinners single "In The Mood" and did all instruments. Played on and with Inohs Sivad CD Forward and SBU Tombstone CD, and has worked with a host of various artists as well as a songwriter, vocalist and producer.

Shawn "Sgt Major" Mims

Sgt Major, the drummer for The Circle of Sound Band his musical experiences with C.O.S have been playing at London Chop House, The Perfect Beat and Blue Star Lounge along with performing at wedding receptions and private parties. He has also played with "Meeting of the Minds Band" and "That Band" along with several church performances. 

His musical experience through live entertainment such as performances and tours include Greek town Casino, Stars and Stripes festival, opening act for Ruben Studdard and Layla Hathaway, opening act for Kaleido Band, and Whitmore Lake annual Pond Hockey Classic Tournament. Also performed at Detroit Pub, opening act for Dwele, and studio session with Amp Fidler. In addition, to a radio interview at Tap Detroit with Snow Bunnie, also performed on the Coors Lite Stage at The Palace of Auburn Hills. Lastly, his performances have been seen at the River Place Lounge and Ashley’s Bar and Grill.

Tracey Rich

Known as the "Cat in the Hat" Tracey Rich is the guitar player for The Circle Of Sound, Tracey has been playing since he was in the 5th grade. With his love for music he has played in many venues including multiple casinos, lounges, and theaters as well as reunions. Tracey has been with the Circle Of Sound for the eight years they have been all together.

Marvin Brown

As bassist for the Circle of Sound Band.  Marvin has played the bass guitar for over 40 years. In the time frame he has played in several local bands such as The Fresh Band , Denise Davis and The Motor City Sensations,  Jackie C and The Detroit Rhythm band, The NYCE Band ,The Metro Soul Band,  Chemical Punch and That Band to name a few. He has played over several  local venues large and small,  which includes Friends Cocktail Lounge, The Perfect Beat Lounge, The London Chop House and The Greek Town Casino. He has also  played at the Ribs and Soul Festival and The Paradise Valley Festival and opened for multiple major recording artists like Midnight Star, Howard Hewitt, and Alexander O'Neal just to name a few.
